Rockpoint Gas Storage has been a long-term client of ours, and we originally developed a cybersecurity Storyline course for them around five years ago. Every year since the initial development, the client has worked with us on an annual update, where certain content has been updated to talk about new and relevant cybersecurity threats and concerns. This course is also quite unique in its structure and visual presentation in that it centers the learning around a custom cybersecurity “superhero” named CyberRock! Throughout the course, he battles with a variety of cyber villains to combat their tactics using phishing scam awareness, secure passwords, and other positive cybersecurity practices. With these annual updates, we have collaborated with the client to create new villains and heroic sidekicks to keep the story within the course fresh and fun.
For the 2024 annual update, we continued this collaboration by adding new information about one of the biggest topics in today’s technology, artificial intelligence, and how to recognize the use of AI in good cybersecurity practices. We created a new villain that we incorporated into this section of the course as well as in the “final battle” assessment at the end of the course.
Perhaps the biggest change that was made to this course this year, however, was the incorporation of augmented reality (AR) through a QR code within the Storyline course itself. The “Password Security” section of the course was revamped, and rather than having it end with a traditional knowledge check question, a QR code was given to the learners. They could access it by scanning it on their mobile phones (or via an embedded web link if they could not scan it), and a 3-dimensional animation of CyberRock would appear on their phones! CyberRock would walk them through the proper parameters for setting up a secure password, then give them options to select the best and most secure password option. This interaction was also utilized in the later stages of the course, where accessing the QR code again during the “final battle” would provide this secure password that would ultimately save CyberRock from capture.
The client was very happy with how these updates to the course turned out this year. They praised the creativity of the TLN team in the creation of the newest AI-using villain character, and they were very happy with how the incorporation of the AR component led to more interactivity for their learners. The TLN team has always enjoyed these annual cybersecurity updates with Rockpoint; it’s not often that we get the kind of creative license that Rockpoint embraces.
We look forward to a continued partnership with Rockpoint Gas Storage, and we can’t wait to see where CyberRock’s adventures will take him next!
