  • Cybersecurity is crucial for gas storage companies such as Rockpoint to prevent cyberattacks that could disrupt operations, compromise safety, and expose sensitive data, ensuring they provide a continuous and secure supply to their customers.
  • The most exploitable hole in any cybersecurity setup is the employees and their ability to be phished or manipulated via social engineering. Rockpoint needed a training solution that would help their employees meaningfully remember best practices around security to close this gap.
  • Rockpoint knew TLN had the expertise to create a memorable, visually engaging learning product that would leave a lasting memory in the minds of their employees.
  • After consulting with our client and brainstorming ideas that they felt were exciting and compelling, we landed on creating a course in Articulate Storyline that had distinct custom visuals and engaging interactive content.
  • To make the visuals stand out in the crowd of eLearning that Rockpoint employees are expected to complete, we decided to go with a comic book themed design and created superhero and villain characters to tell the story.
  • Balancing our goal of extreme memorability and engagement with the need to communicate a large amount of information, we decided to go with a medium-length course broken up into several sections that the learner can navigate through in a non-linear fashion.
  • These traits work together to make the course stick in the minds of Rockpoint’s employees and create talking points around topics relating to cybersecurity.
  • TLN went all-in on this comic book visual style, narrating the entire course in first-person using the superhero character as a main speaker, and designing every frame and slide with a vibrant pop-art motif.
  • After brainstorming with the client, we created a unique cybersecurity-themed villain that provided a visual foil for our main character.
  • By creating a set number of re-usable assets that were identified ahead of time during storyboarding, we were able to maximize the client’s budget even though we were creating bespoke visual artwork, which is a laborious creative process.
  • We intentionally designed the course to be modular and able to be continuously updated year-on-year with minimal impact to other content in the experience. This would allow Rockpoint to update the content easily to keep pace with the rapidly changing landscape in cybersecurity. Recently, it has included an augmented reality (AR) add-on segment that is accessible via a QR code within the Storyline course.

Feedback

  • The Rockpoint client was extremely happy with the finished product, and it has become an annual tradition at Rockpoint to look at the updated cybersecurity course to see what new characters or storylines have been added.
  • TLN has gone back each year to add new villains, expand the existing visuals with new artwork, and adjust the learning content. This most recent year will showcase a new AI-themed villain and expanded AI learning content.
